Jogbra was invented 38 years ago, what the hell did women do before then?

Having "known" a number of women runners back in those days, I can tell you that they wore regular bras.

For myself, yes. But I'm "aerodynamically endowed" - not so great for appearance, but quite handy for running.

But most women I know, including some very fast ones (well below sub-3) need some support and a normal bra won't cut it.

Remember that 40 years ago, sports were not normal for girls. I grew up in the 80s and early 90s, and school sports for girls were not anything like they are now. Just, a lot less common - not something that most girls were into (or encouraged towards).

I'm still waiting for the uterus-bra to be invented. Think of all the unborn children who would benefit from such a revolutionary contraption.

I don't know. Ladies, give me your thoughts and tell me what would happen ify you competed in a normal bra? Could you do sports in a normal bra? I'm assuming those weren't invented just 38 years ago.

I have run and competed in a normal bra (because of forgetting to pack a sport bra) and it works just fine. At least for smaller breasts. It's not as comfortable (lack of stretch and breathability, bad fit for moving shoulders), but also not a reason not to run.

For the same reason, men over 30 did not run until the invention of "The Bro".

In 1976, there were barely more than 100 female finishers at the NYC Marathon and only 11 of them broke 3:30. Last year the numbers were 20,398 and 4,299 respectively. Whoever said women basically didn't run back then is pretty much correct.

Things changed quickly.

By 1978 and '79 the numbers were much higher. About 80 went sub 3:30 in 1978, and in 1979 Grete Waitz ran 2:27 and there were 100 women under 3:28.

Grete Weitz was running 80-90 miles per week before jb.
