Desi is better than Shalane, and the only proof that anybody needs of that is the result of their most recent race. Desi beat Shalane. That is a fact, and if it gets you little fanboys all butthurt, then too bad.

Desi beat Shalane, and she did it without yakking about how she was "gonna f^ck sh^t up!!!!!!!" And after the race, Desi didn't yak up excuses about why she didn't beat some Africans.

Shalane gets the gold medal for yakking and wins the prize for biggest ego.

I would take Shalane's Olympic and World XC medals over a 4th place finish at Boston any day. But that is not what the thread is about.

It is about picking Shalane to be top American BEFORE the race. That was the smart pick BEFORE the race regardless of what happened in the race. I am as big a fan of Desi as anyone but in no way would I have picked her over Shalane before this race.

Apparently Shalane used the "gonna f--k sh-t up phrase precisely once. Some of you seem unnecessarily fixated on it.

She doesn't go "yakking." She gets asked questions that she answers.

Her previous two marathons were a 2:22:02 and a 2:21:14. That's not shabby.

I have to wonder about someone who talks about other people being "all butthurt."

I'm a big fan of Desi's. We're lucky to have them both.

Who cares which one is better? Both are probably a mild annoyance to ladies who actually win races.

This is like arguing Padres vs Rockies...
