I will be a junior next year in hs and plan on running sub 18 in the 5k. Last summer my training was horrible and averaged about 18 miles per week then about 25 in the season. Ended up running 19:09 5k on the road that December.
I want to run high mileage this summer (40-50 mpw) but think it might be better to go like 35mpw instead. I feel like if I try to run 50 mpw I will not be able to keep up(quit), get injured, or run at a really slow pace (8:30-9:30 minute miles) I plan on maybe instead running around 30-35 and maybe capping of at like 40 near the end of the summer running at around 7:15-7:30 pace. Will this be better for me or should I just go for a ton of miles and not worry about pace. I want to run sub 18. Thanks
