You might want to go back and read part 2.
In Illinois school boards an choose to put in a "Fair Share" clause into the union contract that forces the school district to collect union dues from non-union members. Almost every district does this. I would outlaw that practice explicitly.
My national right to work law would apply to all unions across the country. Some unions are "closed-shop" where only union members are allowed to work. I would explicitly outlaw that as well.
And we should just allow everyone not paying their dues to benefit from the union contract, which includes better pay, benefits, job security etc. Right that's called free riding which I am sure is what you call people who are on social service programs. How is allowing some to not pay dues and reap the benefits of collective bargaining not free riding? Right to work laws are not about choice; they are about destroying unions. A state becomes right to work and people then choose not to pay their dues money which is usually a small amount, say 1-2% and then those workers do not have a union. The employer then has all of the power and starts to take away what those workers won through forming their union. And, by the way, a union is a collection of workers who have come together to make improvements in their workplace. It is not some outside, abstract thing that tells people what to do. Workers hire union staff who work for them, to better serve their worksite and organize new groups of workers to then drive up wages across the board. When unions were at their strongest, income inequality was much closer together than it is now. I am tired of people being afraid of the word union and what it stands for. The right wing and corporations are attacking unions and spreading misinformation among the general public so that workers believe that right to work is all about their freedom to choose. Right to work simply allows corporations and employers everywhere to take more and more away from the working class.
