You unless you have a log with about 3 months of training, don't believe anything your read about someones training:). You end up looking at things like peaking weeks before a big week, the best week ever, or some delusional coaches plan (see Frank Horwill) that no one runs and not something that is remotely like what the person really did. And then there are the mismeasured courses (10 miles that is really 9.5, 800m on the road that is downhill and really 780,...).
And in this case I wouldn't be shocked to learn that Bekele averages 80 mpw for the year. You have a some 100 mpw during the base phase and a some 50 mpw during comp and that would be a decent average.
I know it is hard to believe but there have been people between 1500m and the marathon who have run fast times on 70-90mpw. Not everyone needs to run megamileage to be fast.
