It is pretty well established that teenagers have a naturally delayed circadian rhythm and as you get older, your circadian rhythm changes to an earlier phase. Meaning that it is physiologic for teenagers to go to bed late and wake up late and for old people to go to bed early and wake up early. It is just natural.
As for me, 1990, getting up for 8:30 classes in college was rough. Now I get up between 5 and 6 every day during med school and can't sleep past 7 or 8.
