Men's NCAA Div 1 Indoor Mile

I was at big 10. Kidder's last 600 of the mile was about 1:23, and he and creese made it look easy. He got burnt in the 600 but that was his 5th race in 24 hours. Still managed a 1:18 at an event that is clearly under distance for him. If he's feeling good he'll be a threat

I'm still not sold on Saratos being the best collegiate miler int he nation - not even top 3. I believe Pat Casey could have also dropped that 3:55 time at sea level in a similar situation.

Pat Casey didn't win nationals with this impressive stats. I think Saratos will suffer the same fate. Cheserek is a stronger runner and can hold his peak a lot longer than Saratos. While Cheserak isn't as vocal as Saratos seems to be - don't confuse that with someone who lacks assertiveness and competitive spririt. Saratos has effectively put a target on his back with this brash talk and the little Kenyan from UO will cash in.

As impressive as Cheserek winning the mile would be, I'm going to pump the breaks on you a little. The last guy who won the mile/10k at NCAAs was Lawi Lalang...two years ago (though he hadn't won the 10k at the time of his mile victory).

Comes off of the day before falling in the 800m prelim, then getting 2nd in the heat to advance to finals (unfortunately, that is not online), and running the mile prelim the day before as well.

Every single person in the field at NCAAs could have done this with ease. 1:57 last 800 off a crawling first half isn't gonna get him the win on Saturday. He's very good to be sure, but this race isn't the best evidence of it.

It is interesting to note that no indoor mile champ on the guys side has won the 1500 outdoors (that year or any year) since Leo in 2008. (Only one woman has since 2008, Charlotte Browning). The last two mile champs have, however, won a different event outdoors (steeple, 5k/10k)

Rotich, Lalang, Ohare, Batty, Emanuel, Emanuel won the last 6 indoor miles (only one American)

Fleet, Fleet, Bayer, Centowitz, Wheating, Fernandez won the last six 1500 titles at NCAAs (All Americans/4x from Oregon)
