Anyone have any suggestions for some good ab workouts or exercises?
Your title says it. Those old 'Abs of Steel' videos are actually very good. They basically are showing 50 ways to work abs over and over. You can usually find a copy at Target/Kmart etc. for $5 or less. Or you could use the old adage: Everyone has ripped abs, but some have to rid themselves of the layer of fat hiding them. Good luck!
Tamilee Webb (the person who did Abs of Steel 2) has an updated video out called "I want those abs." Yeah, the name is gay as hell, but the video kicks ass. A huge improvement over the Abs of Steel 2 video which was made in 1991. You can get this from Amazon or her website http://www.tamileewebb.com
Try jack-knifes. Im not sure if you are familiar with them or not so here is how they are done. You start by sitting on your ass with your knees up by your chin and fully extend both your legs and upper body untill you are parallel to the ground and hold it for 3-5 seconds. Then bring yourself back up into starting possition. The key is to not let any part of your body touch the ground except your ass. Its a killer work out if you do 3x50.
I pride myself on my eight pack and have helped many non-runners shed lots of weight with my ab routines. There are two pieces of equipment that are essential, either one will do. I've been currently using the Torso Track for about 5-10 minutes a day, thats it. There are similar cheaper devices similar in form and idea that work equally well as the Torso Track. One word of warning, in order to benefit from this machine you should already be somewhat fit around the midsection. This is because it can over exert your lower back and shoulders if they are not as strong as your abs. The device I recommend to non-runners is the Pilates Ball or Ab ball as they are sometimes called. Simply balance yourself on the ball like the cute lady on the front of the box and proceed to do sit ups. Again, you only need to use the ball for about 10 minutes a day. I usually do some after my morning run and then again after my evening run. Try this out and good luck on the abs.
Core body strength is essential
