Just got a used treadmill off craigslist. Gym quality. Didn't even think to notice that it takes a 20 amp outlet. So now I've got this thing home and can't plug it in since all my house plugs are 15 amp.
Just talked to someone at Home Depot. Sounds like I would need a 20 amp breaker in my circuit breaker box, 12 gauge wiring to the outlet, and then a 20 amp outlet. That sounds very expensive to wire. And if I replace the outlet and breaker but not the wiring, I run the risk of overheating the 14 gauge wiring in the house.
What's the best way for me to wire this thing up safely and get to use it, but yet not have to rebuild the house in the process? What if I used it in my garage and just unplugged the dryer and plugged it in there. I think the dryer has a 30 amp outlet. Or would that be too much electricity going to the treadmill and ruin the motor?
