I ran there and know they have no scholarships and no financial need slots (which essentially are watered down scholarships) and not only that he has no admission slots. So the athletes he gets have to afford 60 grand a year have over a 2100 SAT and have an unweighted GPA of 3.8 or so and also run fast (ideally). On top of that they have to be saying no to schools that can guarantee there admission to take a chance on getting accepted at Colgate. Despite this he has recently coached a 7:30 4x8, 9:54 DMR, and a 3 time NCAA D1 national qualifier.
Yes I realize not all of those things are all that impressive but given that he's basically coaching a bunch of walk-ons he's definitely not a "crappy college coach".
