Dude, get some reading comprehension skills.
My point was that this guy is ready to give up running 15:40s as a junior while an elite, NOT mediocre, runner only broke 15 as a junior once on a very fast course.
McGorty is in no way mediocre.

This is the best example on this thread, hands down. Bruce very average as a Sundevil.
No, it is obviously Dick Beardsley. He did 16:39 for 5k with serious training compared to Bruce who just screwed around and ran better in high school anyways. Additionally, Beardsley's professional career was vastly superior to Bruce's.

A TIME faster than anyone had ever run at the state meet in XC, which includes a footlocker champion, and Russell Brown.
Your argument is terrible. A state champion who sets course records is not mediocre.

No, what TIME did he run. Don't provide a title or a feat. Provide a NUMBER.
The TIME was a COURSE RECORD at the Meet of Champions, i.e., the fastest from every division in the state against each other. Faster than a Footlocker Champion's time. Faster than Russell Brown's time.
Your argument ends there.
No rational person armed with those facts would argue that he is mediocre.
I know however that you'll continue to ask for "TIME, TIME, GIVE ME A TIME!!!"
Have at it. I'm done responding to you.
It all depends what you mean by "Elite". If you're talking world class "Elite" they have distance running lotto including, genetics, drive, insatiable desire to perform and have hit "powerball" in the mental game! Otherwise, runners develop differently some of it's genetic, coaching, environmental, motivational or system the runners in. As a former collegiate coach, I'd always look for that needle in haystack runner who has a strong work effort clean mechanics and low mileage kid. There are 1000's of kids that hit next level as grow older and enter college or even after! ALWAYS BELIEVE in yourself, trust your training. Good Luck!

This is from back in the day also. Shawn Found. Didn't break 5 minutes for the 1600 in HS. Went on to be All- American at Colorado. Fourth in the Olympic Trials in 2000. Made the US World's Team for Torino '97.
That can't be right is it? I know Wetmore is great at developing runners but either Found was not serious in high school or Wetmore is coach of the century. Maybe a little bit of both.
