Millrose 3000 Record Attempt? Is Eric Jenkins going for Alistair Cragg's CR?

Word on the street is that Jenkins is going for the collegiate record this weekend at the Armory.

Interesting. I think Jenkins can do it if he is ready to run fast. Bayer will be able to run with him I would think. Awad no chance to hang with Jenkins but certainly can shoot for 7:50. Id guess Leingang possibly the rabbitt unless they add someone else to rabbitt.

Anyone know what the Ivy league record is?

The field is not strong enough. I'm not saying that he isn't capable, but I think he needs company to run 7:38. Cragg chased Boaz when he ran the record and had Lincoln on his tail.

Jenkins should atleast snag the American CR since this is on a banked 200 track and will count unlike Hills 7:43 a few years back at Husky.

Ivy record is 7:51.52 by Korolev last year. I'd be a little surprised if Awad got it, but not shocked.

If he breaks the record it will be a tremendous occasion demanding audacious celebratory behavior. Though Not enough for me to get naked and go streaking. Need a more focused goal/celebration. Can't think of what. Feed some ducks? Buy Oregon merchandise? Donate money to causes I think are worthy and post proof on the forums? Hmmm. But I am very proud and very dutiful and energetic in my contingent desire to celebrate. Go Jenkins! Reach for the stars

Talking about it reminds me of how awesome it used to look when Boaz raced the Arkansas guys, because of the height disparity...

Didn't German Fernandez run 7:47 as a true freshman. Why couldn't he break it?

I am hoping for a record, but Cragg's time is very good.

If he gets the record time does he have to be drug tested after the race for the record to be ratified?

I don't see Jenkin's getting below 7:42. I think Rupp could have scatched at Cragg's time, but it would've been a stretch and he would've had to truly peak for it.

Jenkins ran 7:46 2 years ago, it just won't show up on any list. He broke 13:20 younger than any other American. I'm not saying he'll do it, the ACR is more likely... just saying lists mean nothing, and nobody should be shocked if he jumps to the top or close.

So is there actual evidence that he is making a run at the CR? Because going out in 4:08 and having to run 30s the rest of the way doesn't seem to indicate such.

Agreed. Also In an ideal world, the pacer would go to at least 2k.

Here's why Jenkins won't break the record: The Oregon coaching staff isn't going to let him peak 4 weeks before the NCAAs anymore than they'll want to see Ches run a 3:52 mile. The goal is to qualify for Fayetteville and win races there. Ches needs to run around 3:58 or thereabouts and last year's final 3000 qualifier came in at 7:53.16. I'm looking for all four Ducks to come in around 7:50 and it's Mission Accomplished.

Mission could also be accomplished somewhere else (ex: Husky) for much less of a cost. If they're investing in the cost of running at Millrose, they're going for the record. 7:43 for Jenkins, 3:54 for Cheserek
