This is what you said, which is also inappropriate and theoretical, NOT representing reality and the physiological/biological differences between the populations. You absolutely can't use a linear comparison because the women's population isn't normally distributed-- violating the first assumption to Statistics 101.
Women's depth is actually better than men's at the D1 level and beyond, and yet the women's population is still positively skewed, which I would hypothesize is due to being biologically more diverse than men (the few women at the top defy the norm, being built/wired more like men).
