re: "If anyone D1 coaches are looking for an easy pickup this kid looks like a high school kid who peeked way to late to get anyone's attention. "
He is getting good coaching and competition, things are going well; why would
he transfer? Why would he abandon his coaches and teammates and take his talents to a school that showed no interest in him.
This kid ran a 4:14 1600 in high school and a 9:27 3200. He could have gone D1 if he wanted to. Maybe he didn't want to.
Not everyone who can desires to run D1. We don't know what kind of student he is. Maybe he got a great financial deal to go to Ramapo. Maybe he really likes Ramapo for some reason.
Just because a kid busts a good time as a freshman for a D3 school doesn't mean he should jump to D1. Why does everyone here think D1 is the holy grail? The vast majority of athletes who go to D1 schools will never run competitively beyond that level. Only the best of the best really should consider D1 as their only option. Beyond about top 15 in the country, and who really cares. The education they get is the most important thing, and for some of them a D3 school will be the better option.
16 high school kids ran faster than Hernandez's 1:50.83 in track last season. Not saying it's not great that he did it (especially since it's indoor), but the talk to jump to D1 is a bit much.
If he's paying too much at Ramapo and not liking it and if he can get some scholarship money to make it worth his while to go D1, then he should. Otherwise, it seems the training is doing him well, so he should stay at Ramapo.
Well said, very well said.
New Jersey produces the best 800m runners in the country. Jeremy should definitely go D1.

lol no.
Not sure why so many people think D1 is the place for him. He is doing great but D1 is faster than you think. University of Iowa for example has 5 guys on the team who have run faster so he wouldn’t be getting a scholarship.
He just ran 3:59.01... How many runners at the University of Iowa can do that?
Ahhh guyyyyyyy. This post is 3 years old, I bumped it because Jeremy Hernandez just ran 3:59.01 as a D3 runner. I was just on the phone with their coach, University of Iowa wishes they gave him a scholarship.

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
