Wasn't there a guy or two who made the Oly team in 68, I'm thinking 5 or 10k, but then they re-ran the distance events at altitude and they got bumped?
There was an Olympic Trials meet held in LA in June, I think, of 1968. When the USOC figured out that it might be a good idea to see who could perform at high altitude they set up a second Trials at South Lake Tahoe. The deal was supposed to be that the winners from the LA Trials were in and only needed to "demonstrate fitness" at Tahoe. Bill Clark won the 10,000 at the LA Trial but did not come top three at Tahoe and was left off the team.
