I've been disgusted too since Kilian Jornet was cutting the switchbacks at one of the American ultras (which one was that?), apparently cause that's considered acceptable in the European ultras. Not cool here. At least road racing has a bit more legitimacy to it on preventing things like this. Not sure if Comrades had drug testing back when Leonid was racing in his prime. Between them and Two Oceans, there's been some drug busts the past few years in the lucrative ultras (and yet the people of South Africa are sympathetic when it's one of their own who's caught- disgusting).
Yes Comrades had testing back when Leonid was competing. Actually they had it before then. Charl Matheuis won in 1992 but was dq'ed for taking norephedrine in an OTC cold medication.
Which South Africans are they sympathetic towards?
