Well now the hijacks, ie. truthful reports about Cormier from this morning, have vanished, and we're left with the drivel like below.

wow letsrun, amazing read, great to see Ken doing so well. also great to see someone doing something outside of teh sport and making an identity not solely tied to running. Bravo Ken, good on you lad.

I think many talented runners follow Kenny's philosophy. Some find it very quickly, others hold on for what i consider way too long. But they're chasing a dream, which has merit.

One thing I took issue with was the segment on Mono. The author accuses the NP of misdiagnosing anemia in its place. I have to say, this is far off base. Many runners (elite and otherwise) have off seasons and don't perform to their potential. They often seek medical advice and get normal tests back with no real answers. Then they keep pushing, and they find something which may or not really be the cause of their problems.

Without seeing the actual lab results, I have to wonder how they diagnosed mono. If it was a monospot test, then there is your answer. If they caught it earlier, they would have changed nothing at all except perhaps telling the athletes to avoid contact sports. So I don't get the hubub.

I'm always fascinated by this board when it comes to medicine. People are expecting doctors, whose job it is to diagnose illness (like, you're legitimately sick, without an intervention may get sicker or die), to maximize athletic performance. They are not at all trained to do so. Your job is to get someone from below normal to normal, if youre lucky. Not to get them from normal to above normal, which is the goal of training. Mono is your best case of the day. Quick, easy, healthy patient, rest, fluids, tylenol, done. The doctor isn't thinking of how they can alter each individual athletes physiologic profile to achieve a new level of athletic homeostasis. Salazars group has that. There is a great guy in munich who does that. this isn't even a specialty yet.

I enjoyed the article a great deal. Without Mr. Gault, this place would not be 50% of what it is. Well, it might be 2/3 of what it is. rojo and wejo do yeoman work on the front page, but they don't pretend they can assemble articles like this one.

It is also not their fault that more than a few regulars here genuinely believe that scourges like Hitler and Saddam Hussein are heroes of the American Left. Mr. Gault was conspicuously and appropriately dispassionate one way or the other about Cormier being a sniper. What everyone thinks about this choice is a matter of personal taste.

Jonathan is good at what he does. I'm glad i hired him.

That being said, I'm certainly capable of doing long profiles. In fact, I did one for the WashingtonPost

I just haven't historically had the time to do stuff like that. Re-reading that, I forgot how much time i put into it, talking to relatives, high school coach, college coach, etc.

So it takes a ton of time, time I certainly didn't have when I was coaching at Cornell, and does nothing financially. That's why it wasn't realy done. Let's spend a week writing something that we give away for free. A brilliant business model. Your welcome.
