Don't listen to Dane
Don't be a sissy. Even if it's 10 below zero, you can be out running in it for an hour with no danger. Don't listen to the tv weather chick who says it's miserable outside. It's not that bad. If it's below 20 degrees, you'll even stay pretty dry running through the snow.
The worst is 30-40 degrees with sleet or cold rain. But even then, keep dry, keep moving. You won't die. Just get out there. Mind over matter.
Don't forget to hydrate. You don't sweat as much, but your respiration uses more water in the cold.
For inspiration, read Shackleton's story. 28 men camped out for nearly two years in Antarctica. Their ship was crushed by the ice-they lived on Penguin and Seal-and sailed 800 miles in a 20 foot open lifeboat across the roughest oceans in the world, then hiked across the mountains of S. Georgia Island to a remote whaling station. Not a one of the group died. If they could do what they did, you can get your 8 miles in tomorrow during this age of the polar vortex.

Gets absorbed into the skin, or your clothes? If the former, how safe is that?
Last year I picked up a pair of Ghost GTX before the worst winter in 30 years, and boy was I glad I did. I don't like to wear really thick socks when i'm running. The GTX kept my feet warm in even the most extreme cold weather with just a typical smart wool sock on my feet. Plus, better traction on the slippery parts. Will be buying another pair.
Stop being a whiney beeotch and run.
tuck tights into socks, and upper layers into pants/tights. best move
Give up running

The winter I had my best training I did just that.

stick a glove or sock over your crotch on very very cold windy days.
+1
I'm liking this thread. Hands, toes, genitals and face are the worst for me. Definitely shorts over tights. Oh and my eyes! My eyes get so cold I have to run w/ my eyes closed. Not so bad if there are no cars.
I'm with you on that. On really cold days, wind briefs, tights, wind pants, etc. don't cut it. I use old dish towels and handkerchiefs in lieu of the glove/sock.
spend money on good gear...also wear windproof mittens
know where your heat is produced. For me, I get really really hot when I run, it sucks. So I like the cold weather. However, when its very cold ( say sub 35) my core still gets hot, but my hands get cold. So, If its about 35 I'll still wear a tshirt and shorts, but put gloves on. I'll even go shirtless with gloves on if its a harder run, people find it pretty nutty. Oddly enough, I'm really cold before the run and I always think, man I'm going to be freezing out here. Then about 5 minutes in my interner boiler takes off haha.
Secondly, ease into the run. Preventing sweat will help keep your temperature regulated better.
At -40 you will need a wool scarf tucked down the front of your pants, and 2
pair of gloves with no holes in them.
And if you are running 20 miles, a facemask helps.
You must live in a warm climate. 35 is not cold.

If you get really cold feet, wrap the toe box in duct tape. Wrap it all the way around the sole of the shoe so the tape comes back and sticks to itself on top of the shoe. That way, it won't unwrap while you're running. Most running shoes are mesh, so cold air just blows through. You can feel the difference almost immediately. If you're concerned about the fashion police, use clear duct tape. You have to look closely to see it.
the duct tape trick is good - I use it for rain even if the temps are not real cold.
But here's a better technique - it doesn't require the tape to go around the sole of the shoe:
