This morning someone from my doctor's office called to tell me all of my test results--SF, hemoglobin, and TSH are normal. I asked about the values and she said my serum ferritin is 24 and my hemoglobin is 13. (My TSH is 1.7) I asked her if she thought these were a little low for a female runner and she said she didn't know. She also didn't know I had an appointment within 30 minutes of her phone call. My doctor told me these levels are normal, but I could supplement with 100mg of iron per day. I searched this forum and apparently some of you think a female runner should have a SF of 30. Should I go ahead and supplement with 100mg per day? I've been feeling sluggish the past three months which is what prompted the blood test in the first place.
Thanks so much!
