They seem like they could kick anyone's butt.
True or not.

Trust you me, they are not. They are New Yorker wannabes.
True. Kappa ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
MARK WAHLBERG Do I need to say anymore?
And RAY DONOVAN too!
And Shawn Thornton. Er, make that Milan Lucic!
Micky Ward...a rare white boxer to defeat some black guys.
The only guys left with Boston accents are from poor neighborhoods or shitty cities like Lowell. Hence they're tough.
Also, nobody in Boston worries about NY. It's a cool city, but get over yourselves.
Cuz we ahhh
not my post

And the Tsarnaev brothers.
im in lowell right now. they don't have boston accents,
revere, methuen, fall river, new bedford...any other multi-syllabic name that could be butchered usually has terrible accents

There are two Boston accents, not one.
Bill Rodgers doesn't really sound tough.
I am from the area. There are some tough guys, as well as a lot of fake tough guys. There are also a lot of pansies.
When you get down to it, the percentage of truly tough guys is low, though. What a lot of them have in common is that they are willing to lay it all on the line, right now, this moment. They are willing pay the price. Some of them - like Whitey Bulger - are sociopaths, who have no conscience. That's what makes them dangerous.

Rodgers is from Connecticut.

Bill is from Connecticut, went to Weslyan - he's not from Boston.
But if we're talking tough, yeah, as a runner he was tougher than a lot of big mouths could ever conceive, let alone be.
All those guys in the Departed seemed really tough.

I am from the area too. There were some serious hammer heads that I grew up with. If we are defining tough as willing to throw down with anyone, anywhere, then it was quite remarkable the number of tough guys.
No guns, weapons or gang bs. Just a plethora of fearless, gritty, tough white kids. Often it was a whole family of them. When you have brothers you learn how to fight. At least back then. And they had gnarly accents.
I have a memory of this one guy from Southie who was, indeed, a hard ass. But he didn't make a show of it.
He was ref at an intramural basketball game at my college and some of the players didn't like a call or two so they starting mouthing off/swearing at him.
He stopped play, holding the basketball under his arm and said something along the lines of "You're talking tough and swearing at me now, but if I says let's just take it outside right now and settle it, you'll all of a sudden want to be my friend. So, stop it right now or else we will take it outside and no, you're not gonna be my friend then."
The game continued without further protests from any of the players on any calls that he made. They had gotten the message.
