An IT band issue is what made me switch to flats over 10 yrs ago. It means your shoes are some combo of too soft and/or too I flexible- hence, why trainers don't always mechanically work for everyone. Even when I've tried to go back to wearing trainers (Nike Pegasus for example), I've felt my right IT band start to feel quirky.
This being said, I've worn lots of flats over the years, but most recently have had the most success in Brooks T7s, Nike Lunaracers, Nike Frees, and Skechers GoRuns. I wore Saucony Kinvaras for a period, but they seemed to be too inflexible and aggravated a PF issue I had at the time. You should try something like a marathon flat or lightweight trainers. Lots of options.
