What is a meat grinder program?
Also I am very excited about the NY recruits. I suspect we'll get more after nats.

One of the colleges on Maton's list is not like the others....are you sure about that?

WOW bet Utica gave a stud like him a full ride

Thank goodness a mind like his is not looking at Oregon or NAU. Seems like he actually cares about a career after running...
Stanford where great runners go to die. Anybody know when Signing day is for track and Cross Country? Thanks

This Wednesday the 12th is the start of the early signing period (http://www.nationalletter.org/).
I don't get stanford. All they do is stock pile talent and put them through the ringer. I get the education part but with all the talent that they have collected over the years you would have thought they could do something with it by now.
Sukhi Khosla, Talahassee, Fl (4:05) ... FSU or Oklahoma State
Stanford most likely suffers from the "I want the athletes with the best hs stats" syndrome. Most of these runners are done. This is especially true for the girls. By the time Stanford gets them it's time to manage the decline.
Very interesting stuff here and is always fun to see where people go!
Have heard Levi Thomet hinting towards Oregon on certain posts on social media. I've gotten to know Levi over the past couple years and from what he has told me, he will commit on the spot once Oregon offers.

The fact of the matter is kids don't pick schools on improvement rates they pick schools on stuff as trivial as the color of the uniforms or whether or not the coach is "cool." If more hs'ers actually looked at facts we wouldn't see them go en masse to 'meat grinder' programs like BYU, UVA, Furman and many others.
Yes UVA is a meat grinder program. I follow their training and they train HARD, but a meat grinder isn't bad for everyone. By definition, if you make it out healthy, you will be really fit. Some people get smushed, and some people turn out as finely ground, juicy hamburgers.
As for CT guys going to UVA, it's an incredible school. I would never pass up the opportunity. The places they train are beautiful, and Charlottesville is a beautiful town. Wynne's high school training wasn't exactly conducive to improvement in college (lots of speed), and he's still run 3:46, 1:48. Also, he's only a sophomore now. As for Rog, remember, he wasn't an absolute stud in high school and now he's running 23:40 for 8k. Probably sub-8 indoors, and sub-14 this year. If you look closely, they do a fine job developing talent. It's no Colorado, but it's an awesome deal with the school and the running.
No school does less than UVA with all the talent they get. Bring em in, grind em up, produce average results

Why in the world would these two commit to Cincinnati?
I guess they're better than Buckeyes, but still not very good!
Both are from the Cincinnati area, so maybe they just want to be close to home. Also, Cincinnati recently reinstated scholarship money for cross country, swimming and diving, and track and field. This funding had been cut in 2009. Thank Tommy Tuberville for that.
Holy crap the title of this thread makes me feel old
I really hope Oregon can land Maton and Ostrander Imagine a 1-2 of Cheserek and Maton and a 1-2 of Baxter and Ostrander that's a great start to a great team. GO DUCKS

I'd be shocked if Maton doesn't go there. He's from Oregon and his sister runs there. Oregon does a great job developing their athletes. It seems like a no brainer.

What? Please tell me about all the talent that has been wasted at Stanford...

My apologies for not making it clearer - "Why why why's" post is in response to a line of questioning about where Fischer is looking, so I assumed the criticism was about men. If it was about Stanford's womens team then I take it back, but if there is the claim that talent is dying on the Stanford men's team I'd be interested in hearing about it.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
