would a stress fracture feel better after taking a hot shower or putting heat on it? Or is that more of muscle/tissue/tendon issue if it heats up and feels good?

The tissue around the broken bone might feel better, but I doubt heat is all that good for broken bones. It sucks, but the only thing that heals stress fx is proper diet, enough sunlight (vitamin D), sleep, and time.
Icing injuries is counter-intuitive and lacks scientific support.
The outdated theory was that you are icing to reduce inflammation and to reduce swelling. By reducing swelling, it was thought that only then the healing process could begin. They were wrong. Inflammation has never been a problem - inflammation tells the body what and where to respond to tissue damage. The only way for your body to heal is to have an active blood supply to the injured area, and the best way to do that is to apply heat to it. With that said, icing does seem to help reduce the pain of an injury.

You are wrong. Pin firing is proven to hasten healing of bone injuries. It doesn't get much hotter than a red hot needle inserted into your periosteum multiple times.
