The course last weekend was hardly what it was like 3 years ago when Zach set the record.. it had rained all day Wednesday and Thursday and the course was very soft in a lot of areas, as well as a few muddy patches, and strong winds picking up in the closing minutes of the race. Definitely a slow day (maybe 20 seconds?) for everyone. When Herriott set that record in 2011 it was a perfect day (hard ground, no wind etc). and I know this because I have been at the kc metro meet for the past few years. I also know Stuart went through the 4k mark around 12:20 and pretty much decided to simply coast it in from there as he had already pushed a 30-35 second gap.
The kid has serious talent, and he will prove it come November/December
