This is easy.
Your kid did the right thing. Your child would not have been of any help medically to the runner. It might be different if they were isolated in the trail and your child needed to get help but they were in the final stretch.
XC is a team sport. The collapsed runner should want his/her team members to finish their race and so should the coach.
