Surprised no one has mentioned teacher's.

In my job I sometimes have periods of time (2 or 3 weeks) where it will be like that, and then BAM! I'm working a 70 hour week.
Ok, I'm a teacher and I'll admit it, there are several teachers in my district that do nothing and get paid quite well.
I'm a software developer. Sometimes we have a few weeks or NOTHING because our equipment is shipped out to an event and we're basically just waiting for us to join it. Other times we have a few weeks where every minute at work is spent working to try to get a new feature implemented before the next demo or for the next sprint or whatever. Usually its a good mix of both: stuff to do but also no pressure so you can take your time and take frequent breaks.
Sinecures are a good thing to have. They don't last forever.
Factory work is good for listening to audiobooks/podcasts/radio shows. I pack plastic trays for 12 hours at a time, on my feet, which has increased my endurance. Pay is 1.5x min. wage.
