that should read "he really turned it around from earlier in the summer."
Lagat will beat Rupp again in the 2015 world champs in Beijing, and in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
According to wiki, he graduated HS in 1994 (at 19 y.o.). And started university in Kenya in 1996 (at 21 y.o.). He arrived at Washington State later that year (@ 21 y.o., almost 22 y.o.). According to the IAAF website, he was running 3:37 in 1996 (at age 21).
With all these facts, maybe he is only 38 y.o. and not 39. I doubt that he is only 37 however, since that would mean that he graduated HS at 17 and that he ran 3:37 as a 19 y.o.

BWahahahahaha
rojo- This is a pointless statistic that you keep repeating on this site. I realize you were baited into it but you seem quite eager to break out these stats. The comparisons you make would make sense if Lagat ran the 5 and 10 like Galen. Galen's best event is the 10000. He runs the 5000 as his second event and does it often. If Half of those races were 10000s, I am pretty sure the percentages would look different. Who cares if Lagat beat him in a bunch of 5000s and some 1500s - it is what one would expect.Anyone running an off event in order to improve overall will likely be inferior to the top specialists in that event.

Maybe never again, but head to head the score according to tilastapaja is Lagat 20, Rupp 2, with one of Rupp's victories being when Lagat was a DNF.
So in races that they've finished, Rupp's only victory Lagat is at the 2012 Trials 5000.
Don't use logic on the lrc forums!Lagat was obviously 25 when he started at WSU in 1996.Lagat is obviously no more than 32 in 2014.Kenyan age maths is funny. That is the only true uhmerican acceptable answer.

Man, I thought he was done for the season. Great result. Can't wait to see him in a couple years.

True that. Rupp ∞ is to Ø against Lagat at 10k.
It could just be that a number of East Africans are older than their official age. It does not have to be true of everyone.

Anyone have a video of the race?
Other interesting tid bit. If he doesn't run a 1500 before the end of the season, this will be the first time that he doesn't post a mark in the 1500 since "forever"...

Which championship has pyrotechnics at the end of every race like ISTAF??? When Choge won, giant columns of fire erupted behind him. That is more epic than any stupid snail-paced sit and kick 13:20 medal race.
The medals aren't even made of real gold. But that fire was real.
has WADA fully investigated this ?
it's very suspicious what lagat is doing
Incredible result. Any insight into his training and James Lee’s training philosophy? We hear such a lot about Lydiard, Coe, and Canova training but Lee's training is of great interest given Lagat's unparalleled longevity at the top of the sport.
It's scary to think if he runs at the 2014 Olympic trials he will make the team without question. The only Americans that can match his 5k closing speed are Rupp and Lomong. Very strong performance, if he can still perform at this level why retire?

GOAT Loser.
It's impossible to have an serious discussion with the Bad about everything regarding Augustine Choge - you will never get a serious reply.
It was told - with arguments - several times to him that Choge can't be called GOAT (in what ever category he want's to specify for). But he continous with this stupidity. The Bad is resistant for any arguments - so better don't try.
Btw, good win for Choge, who is a great (little bit inconsistent) runner with an great range. I wish him all the best to join the very rare club of runners who have achieved world class results in both the 800m and 10000m. So far, in the history of athletics, there was only one athlete (Said Aouita) who could excel at both ends of the track distances (maybe you can add Alan Webb, but when he ran his 10k PB, 27:38 never was in the strictly world class category). Maybe also Kipchoge Keino, but his 800m was not of the highest calibre.
Not Nurmi. Not Iharos. Not Gebrselassie. Not Bekele. El Guerrouj probably could have done this also, but he never has tried.
tidbit

When was his world-class 10000m? it says on iaaf that his PR is 29:06 from 2002 (!).

So far, he hasn't run a international class 10k. I havn't followed his career closely, and I don't know if it's in his mind at all to ran a great 10k. But according to Bad Wigins everybody who has the slightest doubt that he will ran under 27 minutes is stupid.
What is the threshold that separates a "hobbyjogger" from a "sub-elite" runner?
