It was fairly obvious there was no love lost between the other girls and Simpson. Usually you don't leave someone lying on the ground like that.

Both are hard working athletes. However even though Shannon is in good shape she is not in the same class as Jenny. Sorry this is a fact. Yes she gave her a run for her money in the last race but this is an anomaly.
Jenny is world class and Shannon is an elite U.S. athlete.
Jenny as the announcer loves to say is a "racer." She has the mindset of a champ and is completely in another league.

Martinez is Simpson's teammate but helped Rowbury up and gave her a pat on the back.

Don't kid yourself. Shannon is world class in two events this year. She has been world class every year since she went professional in 2008.
She was injured until late winter and got a late start to her outdoor season
Shannon's focus on the 5k this year is finally paying off in her 1500m races
She ran a bit timid in the past few races but she committed to winning Zurich and there is no doubt she was the stronger runner in that race
That was a big confidence boost for her and I expect it will translate into her future races
Hopefully she didn't get too banged up from that hard fall so she can run at her best for 3k in Brussels. Her PR is 8:31. That was a few years back and she is in much better shape this year

To say Simpson is "completely in another league" is a real stretch. Rowbury has faster PB's in the Mile, 3K and 5K.
She also finished ahead of Simpson in the last two Olympics.
But Jenny is the fans favorite.
There were a lot of hard feelings after that race. Aregawi. Hassan. Obiri. A lot of money at stake. All three still think they should have won. If Rowbury has hard feelings it's for herself doing a swan dive instead of dipping at the line.

Swan dive? Get some glasses
Hard feelings for herself? That's a really dumb statement
She was falling face first at the line because she got tripped by her competitor
No one will be watching them in Brussels in the 3. The race is between Dibaba and Cherono. The Americans will be way back in the pack.

the mile? seriously?
I'll be watching Dibaba.
I think this will be a great match up. The interesting questions will be:
1) can Shannon Rowbury get close to her 2010 8:31.38 .
2) Can either Jenny or Shannon get near the Slaney AR of 8:25.83
3) Is either fit enough to break 8:30?
Any idea if there is evidence to suggest Slaney would have been clean or doping during that performance in 1985?
I think they can both definitely break 8:30. Given her 1500 and 5000 times, Shannon should be a sure bet for something between 8:26-8:30 as long as it's not a slow race from the start. I kind of doubt that the AR is in the cards thougha. Jenny is a bit more of a wild card given that I don't believe she's raced anything over 1500 since indoors. Her 3:57 would indicate something fast, but it's hard to say how well it will translate up in distance. Under Benson she seemed to fall behind at 3k+, but knowing Wetmore and his training I wouldn't be surprised if she could rip a fast one and threaten the AR.
Good point. I definitely agree under Benson she seemed like she lacked a bit of endurance. It wasn't that long ago thought that she was crushing 3k indoors for CU and demolishing indoor/outdoor 5k records. She seems to have both her fitness and her extreme grit at their peak right now so I would love to see something special from both her and Rowbury.
This is true. I've noticed this as well. Fmale athletes tend to hold grudges and tend to be jealous of whoever is the best at the time - Jenny.
My wife watched jenny run a race on YouTube and knowing nothing else said "she looks like a tightly wound stuck up b1tch"
There's always theatrics with her. She's good. Real good. But let's be honest, she doesn't seem very likeable. Neither does Shannon fwiw
😱
The momentum builds for what is shaping up to be an EPIC SHOWDOWN in Brussles!
Ahhhh!
😱

Rowbury's Mile PB is 4:20. In what mile race has Simpson run a faster time?
The men's 800m at Zurich was a good example of sportsmanship afterwards. That should certainly be replicated in other events.
Lol. Jenny's steeple 3k is probably faster than Shannon's 3k time.
And Jenny doesn't care about the 5k at this point. Why should she when she is competing at a world class level in the 1500.
I stand by my assertion that Jenny is in a completely different class than Shannon.
And to the guy who says he expects Shannon to put up some big results "soon" . . . I certainly hope you have some 02 on standby for the length of time that it will be necessary to hold your breath for that one.
