The medical authorites used to consider 120/80 the "normal" blood pressure reading. And figures of up to 130/85 were considered within the normal range.
Now the medical authorities have changed the numbers and state that the "ideal" normal number should be around 115/80. The docs. now claim that anything over 120/80 is "pre hypertension" which can lead to strokes, heart attacks and so on.
Just curious to know what some of you runners have for blood pressure?
In my case my blood pressure varies from about 115/75 (at my lowest) to about 127/75. So according to the doctors, I am in trouble and could be looking at cardiovascular problems somewhere down the line....Sometimes when I am stressed (after teaching a class in grade school, for example) the numbers can be even higher...
Are these guys (the medics) exaggerating, or do you believe the new numbers are fair assessments of where you should be for B.P.?
By the way - how accurate do you think those machines are at the pharmacies, where you can take your B.P.?
What numbers do you guys have?
