Some of you totally missed the point of my post. I'm talking about social isolation due to not being into alcohol and the behavior of people who like alcohol. I worked in a large national park one summer with TONS of stuff to do. Every single person around my age didn't want to do anything but sit around and drink and BS every single day. They had their spot they would go to, and then they would just sit there after work for 4-6 hours and drink and BS about nothing.
On my college team, I was literally the only person who didn't drink or party every weekend except for the really religious people, which I only had so much in common with and didn't want to hang out with regularly.
I moved somewhere new and have dated around, but most girls, but most girls don't want to do much of anything besides drink and watch TV.
I started grad school and literally everyone in my lab as well as the PI gets drunk about once a week and sees drinking as a great activity they love to do. Drinking is a freakin EVENT for these people.
"So just have water." Yeah, because sitting around being sober with a bunch of people who are acting stupid is exhilarating. I'm a highly motivated introvert also. I don't want to just sit around and BS for hours at a time on a regular basis. This seems to be all a lot of people even have in their lives. To me all this says is, "my life is so incredibly boring, and I am such an incredibly boring person that I literally cannot think of anything better to do with my time than sit around and be stupid." It's a disgrace.
