The marathon is much different than your college XC or track events. You can try to gut it out and power through bad weather in a 6 mile race, not so much when it's 26 miles.
I'm well aware of this but it is a good reminder. At TC especially where the weather can range from snowing and 20f to the loan year where I ran the 10 mile and it was 90+ and very humid (they cancelled Chicago the same year).
