Anybody heading to Des Moines this week for the half or full marathon? Was wondering if anyone knows what the course and competition is like. Thanks for the help.

I ran it in 2003, fairly easy course, but I think it may have changed this year. Either way, there are no major hills. Fan support is ok in town, but not much outside of town.
I'm running the half. Times are slow at the front, especially in the half marathon.
The marathon is a little better, but not much. Under 3 hours, things are pretty slim.
The weather doesn't look too great for Sunday, rain and wind are forecasted.
If you need any specific info, let me know.
i ran the marathon last year and really enjoyed it. yes, the times are slow but i think a lot of that has to do with the fact that the race is so new. many people in this area are still doing chicago or twin cities every year.
i found the size to be just right, it was never crowded, but i was always with a pack of six to ten runners. i seem to remember it being hilly in the middle last year, but a check on their website shows that most of the hills are in the first nine miles.
