I haven't heard any confirmation yet but also haven't heard anything to the contrary or any other candidates. They may just be finalizing details before the team camp next week.

Yes it's true. Engel got the job at Duke and it will be announced soon. Don't ask for proof because unless you know people involved then you can't have proof until it's officially announced.
Just for the record, my son's teammate is a female, not that it matters. And obviously, a coach will should make their own career priority #1. However, when a high school student commits to run for a school, the coach is undeniably a huge factor in their decision to attend there. It would be pretty disappointing if a coach recruited you then left the program after the letter of commitment is signed. So many of you are so ready be nasty know it alls that you can't even acknowledge that this young woman might be a little unhappy with the situation. That's all I'm saying.
Your son's teammate might want to read the fine print next time she signs a legally binding document (NLI).
And if she is disappointed because she signed with Elon, regardless of the coach, then she didn't take her recruitment seriously.
(Finally, why are parents trolling on Letsrun about their kids' teammates?!!)
This guy is right. She made a poor decision if the coach leaving ruins her college choice for her. That's the reason that every time some parent or kid posts on here asking about a coach or program people get on and tell them to pick the academic program and SCHOOL that best fits them. When that happens people don't listen and then come on and complain in a situation like this one.

Being disrespectful of someone else's post is common core here on LRC. The point made by the parent is valid. Tell me one coach who just speaks about school and does not talk about the track and field program and their own ability to build the program? This is done from the best programs to the least attractive. So, why would an athlete not be disappointed when the coach they think they will run for leaves? I think that is a pretty normal reaction.
Telling them to read the fine print is just out and out rude.
True, coaches can move and certainly, if the Elon coach moves over to Duke it was a good move for her and her career. That job opened up late in the year, long after the recruiting process was over, so it is very unfortunate for the new recruit coming to Elon. That doesn't take away the disappointment, so next time, maybe you can be a little kinder with your remarks. Your insensitivity, unfortunately, shows your level of maturity.

If that's all you're saying, you might have written your first post a bit differently. I read you to be not just acknowledging the girls' frustration, but saying that she ought to be "ticked". The nastiness is in response to the clear displeasure you were showing toward Coach Engel.
And btw, my son had this experience. The coach who recruited him and with whom he'd developed a good rapport left after my son's soph year. He was happy his coach had a chance to move up, but disappointed to have him leave. He looked forward to the possibility that the next coach's system might be even better. It didn't turn out that way for my son but it did for many others on the team.
As it turned out, of the five Div. I coaches that recruited him, three had moved on by the end of his soph year, and the other two moved the next year.
This is why you always, always, always choose the school and not the coach
Jermyn wants to spend more time with his family. He is hoping to stay on as an assistant coach at Duke, but that hasn't been decided yet. Also, Engel has been helping coach the Duke summer running camp for a few years, so I'm guessing she already knows a lot about the program. It sounds like a great fit, and should be a smooth transition (especially if Jermyn stays on in some capacity).

If he wants to run for this coach he can ask for a release and go to Duke. They are academically very similar.
Hahahahahahaha!
Elon is where burnout kids go to school when their parents finally agree to bail them out of their personal failures. I had a few friends go there.
In all honesty, they have come a long way, but they aren't even in the same ballpark as the North Carolina ACC schools (UNC, WFU, even the dreaded NCSU), let alone Duke.
Elon is kind of like High Point University.

Happy for the Duke women. About time they got a new coach.
I would have been thrilled if you told me that after Duke hired Christine Engel Wesley Frazier would rebound with a 15:45 in the spring.
Unfortunately she had to leave Duke to do it.
For those in the coaching business: How long do think it will take for the Duke AD to fire Engel and make a new hire?

Duke isn't the kind of school that likes a lot of turnover, so a while. They've changed the head track coach like once in the past 40 years.
With that rationale, a coach could never leave a job seeing that every single year new runners are coming into their program. It is a part of life, runners transfer and coaches leave.
You decide on a school for a number of reasons, cost, education you will receive, do they have your major, do employers hire graduates of that school, location of the school, the coach, the program etc.
The AD doesn't care two craps about Wesley Frazier, I'm 99% certain doesn't know she ran 15:45, and wouldn't know if that was a competitive time either way.
At this point Duke has way too much on its plate in terms of other high level programs to care what T&F is doing outside of the ACC and NCAA meet.
Kevin White was a track and field coach at the collegiate level from 1976-82. I'm fairly certain he knows what a 15:45 for a woman means so your diss on him shows you really have no idea what you are talking about. However, you are correct in thinking that there are many more important things on his mind than having a former athlete run 15:45, like, say football, football and more football with a little bit of basketball. Football rules collegiate sports.
