In another thread an athlete who had run 8:15 3K (not steeple) at one school, transferred to another and ran 8:25. The poster was blaming the head coach.
This brings up a good question: Whose responsibility is it to improve? The coach? The athlete? Combination of both? And if it is a combo, what's the percentage of responsibility of each said party? Coach 50% and athlete 50%?
Of all the college sports, distance runners yell the loudest about the responsibility of the coach regarding their improvement (or lack thereof), I guess because they have the metric of fixed times, while a football or basketball player's improvement is tougher to measure.
Thoughts?
