100k?
It'll be interesting as the distance girls get more pub (Flanagan, Goucher, etc) but Roesler is way better than Abbey D on the world stage and a much more likely medal candidate for 2016.
Since I'd heard Abbey D was getting 200k per year for a long while, I'd think Roesler would be around that. Recently, I heard that Abbey got 400k, I believe per year.
Absurd.
Roesler is top 5 in the world right now. Abbey D is barely top 5 in NCAA.
But Roesler will never appeal to the 4hour mom marathoner.
But Abbey D will never appeal to the 18 year old male like Roesler either.
Also Nike doesn't need Roesler like New Balance/Coogan needed abby. Plus there are only a few mid-d groups out there. If she don't go nike, who would bid for her?

wut
abbey has been a pro for like, a week
Abbey finished her career as the third best collegian in her event and would not have finished any better than 5th or 6th at USATF'S. Her and Coogan knew this and pulled out of the Meet for just that reason. She will be exposed.
There is no comparison between Abbey D and most anyone else.
I have no idea what any pro gets, but I do believe all the compensation should be public.
Exposing the salaries will only benefit the sport. Hidden salaries are hurting the sport.
If DAG makes 400k, that is incredibly good. Imagine how many people would make a go at a running career. If it's 40k, I'm putting my offspring into golf...

what does that mean, she could easily split 56-60? You really think she could go out in 56? She went out in 59 and had nothing for a move on Ajee'. You think that transition to best in the world happens over night or even in one year?
Yes, it can happen in one year. It's a simple matter of retraining energy systems.
Roesler has said that at UO she trained with the sprinters all but one day a week - most likely meaning a long or tempo-style run with the distance runners. This is typical of scholastic training in that it doesn't focus specifically enough on what happens during the 800, namely sprinting under aerobic power.
Roesler can sprint for 400 meters, but she can't sprint for 800 because she hasn't trained her oxidative muscle to contribute at race pace and faster. She has to hold well back from her top speed to avoid acidosis. Of course she couldn't catch Ajee - the second lap depends on oxidation.
Roesler can close in about 60 by reserving enough glycolysis to attack the last 200 without rigging, but it's a racing style and won't optimize her times. Increase her oxidative contribution at sub-60 pace, and she'll hit a much faster first lap with the same pH drop as before, thus exactly the same amount of glyco left - which means, yes, still closing in 60, or even faster because the stronger oxidative component counts for the second lap too.
American schools always ignore this because they're focused on points - any 800 runner is sure to be pressed into 400 service and forego aerobic speed, or 1500 service and forego anaerobic speed. It's why the 800 is among the weakest of all US male high school records.
How, you distance runners may ask, do you increase your aerobic component at sub-60? Easy. Go out and run at sub-60 pace until your stored phosphates are gone, continue until you start to tie up - then recover your pH just enough to do it again, and keep on doing it for lots of reps. After a few minutes you'll be in Johnny Gray's twilight zone. You won't believe you could consume that much oxygen.
So basically, do Coe type speed endurance sessions like:
10x400, 1 min rest
10x200, 1 min rest
etc
...who..?

I believe it cause I saw Gray tie up and get passed many times that last lap, after building a huge lead in the first one. I kept wondering, how can this guy not figure out how he keeps screwing up so badly, but he never did.
My impression of his tactic is that it didn't work very well. If he actually trained to do that, then good grief that makes me chuckle.

I agree, she will sign for at least 100K. She has speed, looks and brains (academic All-American).
Just to clear things up, her major was one of the athletes majors (psychology, sociology, political science). Hers was psychology. Extremely easy academic field at the UO to do well in with minimum effort.
I speak from first hand experience. I'd take the academic all American piece with a grain of salt.
LR was running 2:00 falling out of bed while at Oregon! She is def a 1:57 800 type and that could very well happen this summer! Who knows. I def think she is making 100K! Nothing against the other recent college alums at 800, but Roesler is something special. Besides Ajee Wilson, who by the way is having great season, she is the best in the US!
is this the first time she has broken 2 minutes??
Why are people so excited?
Its not like she just ran a 1:57 or anything. I mean yeah she went like 1:59 flat which is great, and sure she should be one of the top US 800 women in the years to come. But its not like she is gonna own the distance most likely. She'll probably be behind some of these: Montano, Martinez, Wilson, Price, and Cain (although granted its not her main event). So Roesler is certainly not a lock to even be representing the US at WC/OG let alone be some dominant international athlete and, hilariously, as someone said "the face of nike".
Just saying. I don't understand all the hype for a 22 year old who has broken 2 once. Definitely great for her, it puts her on the map on the US 800m scene, but doesn't make her stand out at all.
It makes her stand out because she's hotter than Wilson and all you guys are talking about her. No real talk here about the 1st place finisher.
she looks alright. but not like a stand out beauty that would make her stand out in that way either.
But you are buying into the hype about Chanelle Price and Mary Cain, both of whom have also run under two minutes only once? Neither of them has run as fast as Roesler just did, and both ran their PRs in Diamond League invitationals. Roesler did this in a championship after rounds.
Roesler has gotten better every year in college. It's certainly no more or less reasonable to predict continued improvement for her than for Price or Cain or Wilson or Martinez. I think she's a legitimate medal contender in 2015 and 2016 with the potential to run 1:57 or faster, and that's why it's a big deal
I agree that Roesler is special. What people are not taking into account is the fact that Agee Wilson may be two years younger, but she has been training as a pro for two years now. Running on a college scholarship and running as a pro give two totally different results in terms of all out 800 meter times. Very, very few collegians ever run under 2:00 because they don't get many opportunities to be in race situations that make it possible. I'll predict that Roesler goes into mid 1:58 in the next 3-4 weeks. That is a time that is approaching world class.
If she is at all successful racing over the next year look for her to be the poster girl leading up to the next trials. She is absolutely stunning.

Absolutely stunning? Are we talking about the same person?
