She actually came in a little under pace. Those in her group ran ahead and met their goal while she stayed back the last few meters and hugged and high-fived friends before finishing. At least get your facts straight.

That is not how pacing works. 5:30 pacer needs to come in 'under' 5:30. As a pacer you are not to sag back, cheer, and bring up the rear. Your job is to cross the line under 5:30 with the darn sign attached to your body. Nice try. Fail. Again.
This sounds a lot like 2). Distract

Oh good grief. I'm a slow marathoner and have done marathons with a 5 hour pace group. PM was actually closer to her designated pace than most of the pacers I ran with. And the pacer's work is done by the last mile. It's pretty common to tell your group to run ahead in the last mile while you hang back to pick up those who were running with you but have faded. People do care if you hit the splits on time and she should have done that better, but nobody cares if you cross the line at the exact pace time if you've brought the group that far.
Things are different at the back of the pack. I've seen pacers stop completely at a water stop to help people, run off course to grab something and come back, and slow down to run with struggling group members. I wish they'd treat it like a BQ pacer does, but they don't.
You can ridicule PM for a lot of things, but her pacing performance is not among them.
Well, apparently, PM likes to "run" her marathons and count them as an official finish despite not finishing them in time:
Case in point and this is directly from her website:
http://www.iranmarathons.com/Independent.html
"Start / Finish Time
All events start at 7am each day. Course closes at 3pm every day allowing 9 hours time limit per day for all races"
Amazing how for the Stuffing race, she fnished in 9:11:15. Technically it's a DNF. I wonder how many other marathon times she's lied about.
(It should be noted here that 7 am to 3 pm is 8 hours, not 9)
Clyde, I am going to respectfully disagree with you. Part of the fundamental duties of a marathon pacer is to run as close to even splits as possible. Yes, the #1 "duty" is to come in on time (not disputing that being a little over at the slower groups is okay), but the fact that she was 4 minutes faster halfway thru is horrible. Please tell me, have you ever heard of any pacer running 4 hours or slower being 4 minutes off at the halfway point?
If I was an RD, gave free entry to a runner (not to mention other perks that may have come with it, ie parking pass, vip tent access, etc) and it came to my attention that one of my pacers (at any time) was 4 minutes faster at the halfway point, I'd be asking him/her why they did this, what happened and not inviting that person back to pace at my race.

Are these racing organizations actually legit, tax paying legal entities? So if 10 runners pay a $75 entry fee just to walk 7-9 hours is someone actually claiming and reporting $750 in business revenue? How about paying and reporting income tax for the owner/employees?
I don't see I Ran Marathons anywhere on the official legal entity sites for the State of Texas.
Maybe I not looking in the right place?

This is interesting. Someone should send a comment to the state attorney general asking to look into this.
Sorry, champ. A seasoned pacer needs to know the course. The SA Marathon is a downhill course until about mile 18. No even splits on this baby. ALL the pacers were instructed to run a positive split.

You've never paced at San Antonio. Pacers get free race entry and some shirts. No parking Passes. No VIP access. Pacers take the shuttle bus to and from the race just like everyone else. Pacers are pacing because they like to help other runners, not because of the perks.
Pacers for the 4 hour or slower groups get to start the race way in the back of the pack in the latter corrals meaning it takes 20-50 minutes to start the race. By the time they start they have already walked at least two miles to the corral and eventually the start line. Pacers have the privilege of being on their feet for at least 90 minutes or more before they even begin the race. Finishing in four hours or later at RnR races means that they have already run out of most of the food and the post race concert is already over and packing up.
You are pacing because you are giving something back to the sport and to support runners who are trying to reach their own personal goals.
This song is totally awesome...and rad!
BOOM!!!! Still the World Record Holder!
(drops mic and walks off stage)
I love the vagueness of the race rules and look at who does them..its all the same people:
From Charlie Alewine's site:
THERE IS A 6 HOUR TIME LIMIT FOR ALL RACES, EXCEPT FOR 50Ks, WHICH WE RARELY HAVE. If you need more than 6 hours to complete your race, you must start early.
Results from Dec 10th marathon:
Steve Hernandez 5:49:50 Group 2
Raul Santana 5:59:36 Group 2
Parvaneh Moayedi 6:43:17 Group 2
Guillermo Rios 7:16:15 Group 2
Robert Holland 7:32:57 Group 2
Midnight Tenenbaum 7:32:57 Group 2
Bettie Wailes 8:14:25 Group 2
Haywood Crowder 8:15:12 Group 2
Jim Simpson 9:17:23 Group 2
According to this ONLY TWO OF THE RUNNERS finished within 6 hours. So there is a 6 hour time limit, but there really isn't as long as you start early. We're going to make up the rules as we go! Anything to pad our numbers.
Can someone from the LA area PLEASE show up for one of the "Winter 7" races that are left and verify all of these people are actually there running the race?

Wow, not one person in the area can follow this lady during a race with a go pro camera? Shocking!

Apparently, when you can start a race early, you can avoid the 6 hour time limit and finish in whatever time you feel like and it counts as a finish.
They should just word it like this "Welllllll, we have to say we have a time limit because this is the only way it counts as a 'race' to the record keeping people, but we don't really have a time limit because you can just start and finish whenever and we'll count it. Everybody is a winner! If it takes you 8 hours, great! If it takes you 12, that's great, too!"
I think everyone agrees, that Guinness World Record is meaningless and a joke. If PM has it, it is a joke. Nobody cares. Nobody cares about Guinness WR. Nobody thinks she is an athlete. Nobody thinks she is some prolific athlete that achieved something special. Walking and cheating race after race, year after year, state after state, claiming some sort of unearned and falsely documented record(s) is not something I would walk around promoting. And btw, nobody certainly cares about your stupid race medals so put them back in the box and store them away for good.
