College guy gearing up for XC. I've been doing main runs at 8pm but I have mornings free. I want to start incorporating a daily morning workout routine as well to get leaner or more fitness. I work from 12pm-6pm 6 days a week but it's easy work. So I'm free in the mornings, and I plan to keep my main running workout (8-10 milers as of recently) at 8pm since thats when the weather is best for me.
I don't want to double 5 days a week off the bat. That would probably be overkill. Plus I'm only at ~50-55 miles a week in singles right now. What else I could do that would either break a sweat or help me get lean.
I'm not fat at all but I've gained a few pounds and need to get back in racing shape. I'm a small guy to start with, but I know I've weighed about 5lbs less before when I raced well. Basically I was hoping to incorporate something in the morning that can just help me keep the fitness up and I guess burn calories without hurting my running at all.
I don't wanna walk since if I go for a 3-4 mile walk, my legs are actually overall more sore than if I did a 3-4 mile run. And I also don't want to run a shorter double every morning - at least not yet.
So what are your suggestions? Core exercises, jump rope, body exercises, elliptical, etc.? (Personally hate the cardio machines but if that's a best bet I could do it)
