I like the idea of not having the ankle strap.
What do need to do before the race if your have your own chip? How will your chip have the current race info?
If you own one let me know how its worked out for you.

Each ChampionChip has a unique ID#. Most chip-timed races will have a place on the entry form to write your chip #. Then you just wear your chip during the race, instead of receiving one with your number. The chip doesn't contain race info. It's just another piece of data that gets recorded in each race's database, along with your name, age, etc.
pro: if you're paying your way, you can receive discounted entry fees to some races. you don't need to stop in the chute at the end of a marathon for the volunteer to remove your chip -- I tend to cramp badly if I stop moving immediately after finishing a marathon; that may not be true for all people.
con: one race in particular that I've run keeps failing to enter my chip #, even though I circle it and try to make it as noticeable as possible on the entry form. so I haven't shown up in the results for 2 years in a row, until a day or two later, after I e-mail the timing & scoring company (a separate company), and they look up my chip # in the finishers' database and revise the results.
Dave D,
What is the race that you're refering to here? Im interested, Thanks man
Thanks for the info. I thought that some of the smaller races that use the chip to keep track of the finish order and not for net time might be confused.
If they don't ask for chip # on race app. your out of luck.
