Looking to start a thread on the apparent differences and similarity's between the two prominent distance oriented coaches of the last couple of years.
Alberto:
Obviously Alberto has had great success preparing some of his runners, mainly Mo and Galen for championship style racing, yet Galen has done some record chasing in the past couple of years. From what little information that is available on his methods he seems to blend what we might consider "easy" or only fairly challenging efforts and workouts with massive, almost inhuman workouts. For example Rupp's 5xmile after his indoor 2 mile record.
Without a full schedule there is no way to be sure exactly but I theorize that these large stimulus workouts come later in the training period, just as most runners tend to build mileage and intensity gradually throughout the season Salazar seems to modulate the exact intensity of his workouts with the next race, and season in mind.
Compared to Canova, using Ndiku's world indoor champs buildup schedule we see that there is only one special block, where he gets very generous recovery (2 days before and after) Other then that no workouts are seemingly superhuman. Nothing like Rupp's reported post race workouts.
Ndiku's training is very consistent but compared to some of Rupps reported workouts seems much "easier".
Id love to hear some thoughts on this, these thoughts have been rolling around in my head for awhile.
