More thoughts on Wintheiser, it seems he's been underestimated practically his whole career. Go back to the 2012 thread and I was the only one who predicted a high finish when he placed 3rd at nationals as a sophomore. He had some injury issues which kept him out of the spotlight in track which lead many to ignore him again, but placed 3rd again last year.
He ran some brilliant 1500s last track season, but I believe he's really a 5k-10k guy. I think he and his coach felt that with his past injuries he did not get the mileage he wanted to do what he felt he was capable of in the distance events. 14:14 is by no means bad, but I think with proper base he could have been much closer to 14:00. After all, he had beaten Stadler multiple times, who ran 14:01. He said if all goes well, he will consider the 10,000 for 2015. And if he remains healthy and finds the right race, I think he could crack 14:00.
