Justin Gatlin is COMING!

A 10.02 into a -3.5 headwind is HUGE. The article also mentions how it was drizzling a bit before the race. This equates to about a 9.85 with zero wind.
Imagine if he had been running with the wind. That's about a 9.6 on this day

With a big win I would say about 9.75 at best. Btw, a 3.5 win does not help you 3.5 times a zero wind. -

That's what she said. -
Heard via 2 athletes at the meet that the wind during the men's 100 was a pretty strong tail wind. Japanese just trying to get attention for their meet rather than have fast times wiped off the lists by being wind-aided. With 5 days rest lets watch Gatlin and Rogers run even slower than they did on 2 days rest after arriving in Tokyo from Jamaica.
-
It's not 9.6. It's 9.79 adjusted for wind and altitude. But in Shanghai, it may translate into sub-9.77 (his "dirty" time wiped off the IAAF list).
Mr. Bolt is going to need some of those good drugs he had when Jamaica got caught not testing. -
Coming for what? Another ass whipping from Bolt? When are you people going to realize that Usain has no competitor?

Bolt has had an incredible run. I really hope someone new and super fast comes along soon, from any country. We could use some drama. -
Yohan is close

sub-9.77?
not a chance
also not a chance that he was 9.79 in tokyo, he was fading after 75m, his turnover slowed, he was thickening, and Rodgers was gaining on him like mad
i would have given it a 9.9x-low -

Wait, are you claiming that an elite sprinter looked like he lacked speed endurance while running into a headwind in May? Uh oh, clearly he is going to have a terrible season. (that was sarcasm)
No matter how you cut it, close to 10 flat into a substantial headwind is solid. People have already pointed it out it converts to 9.79ish with a zero wind. He probably couldn't actually run that right now since it is the beginning of the season, but it does point towards us having a reasonable hope that he runs 9.7 or faster at the end of the year if he stays healthy. -

Let's all remember that He was suspended for doping. Once you dope you receive physiological benefits for life. SO if anything you all should be pissed he is still allowed to run and make money because he is cheating the sport and other runners of money and glory. Plus the guy is a mega douche bag.

we don't have to watch the sprints, gents. Just don't do it. Look away, fast forward, don't post, don't care.

Oh, yeah??!! What does an exthrower know about doping?.... Oh, right. Never mind. -

There is no proof of or reason to believe that. That Victor Conte says so means nothing to me.
Dope provides a short-term benefit at the expense of your long-term ability to produce endogenous hormones. -
Having followed sprints for a number of years now, this is a massive first race for anybody. Gatlin will have a career year provided he stays healthy and passes all drug tests.
AFter hearing Ralph Mann talk about Gatlin, he already has the best start in track and field. Once fixes his top end form (he tends to float too long in the air later in the race), he has the potential to be at both Yohan and Bolt status.
The early part of the race is more crucial than most realize with the first 3 steps setting up the acceleration pattern to 60m. If Gatlin has continued to work with Mann and improve on his form, he could threaten the world record.
Gatlin could be the next sprinter to hit 9.5x. -
"Wait, are you claiming that an elite sprinter looked like he lacked speed endurance while running into a headwind in May?"
No craptard, read the post. I claimed that he DID lack speed endurance relative to Rodgers, WHICH HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WIND.
YOU MORON. -
Gatlin has an excellent start, AMONG the best in the 100m. Vicaut, Carter, Blake, Collins, etc. have starts just as good. Gatlin's sets him up well for acceleration after 3 or 4 steps, but he's coming up too early IMO, in this race his head was up after 10 strides. Yes he floats in the air, almost pausing and making a conscious decision to drive the leg rearward, rather than having a smooth cycling motion.
Gatlin will never threaten 9.58 in still conditions unless he starts essentially unrestricted roiding again, which he won't do. He's not Bolt, he's not protected. He will never hit 9.5x He will never even hit 9.6x
He could hit 9.7x-mid if everything works out perfectly.
