Wondering what the consensus on a fast BQ attempt a couple weeks before my first 100 is. No expectations for the 100 and the weekly training mileage lines up nicely. Also any suggestions on recovery for those 14 days between efforts.
Thanks

Seems a bit nuts, but what do I know? Nothing but easy/shortish recovery runs between the events.
I would personally throw in a 18-20 mile threshold run a couple days before the 100 just to stay sharp.
What's your mileage like? How old are you? What kind of time are you shooting for in your marathon? What kind of experience do you have with running ultras? How much EPO are you injecting?
Tons of Poe, 34yrs old, will be my first 100 but have done a 50 and 2 50K's, looking for a 3:05 mary which will safely put me under the 3:10 needed for 35-39 AG. Mileage will be in the 50's and 60's plus I focus on triathlon so tons of swim and bike typically as well.
I would race your marathon and go for a good time. Your probably in great shape getting ready for the 100 miler. Most people end up hiking and walking a lot of those. Or hopping in the Winnebago. So you'll fit right in if you struggle at the 100.
Seems like you can pull this off then. I'd run nothing but (short) recovery runs between races though.
Caveat: You should be prepared to be seriously ruined after the 100 miler. May also screw up your Boston. Not sure of the time frame.
I've heard a good rule of thumb is that it takes 1 day per mile of race to fully recover for another race. Racing a marathon leaves you still a little depleated for any race 2 weeks later, 100 miles or otherwise.
