hard to argue 52 400m speed doesn't help an 800m runner.
Vessey needs her 400 capability to be competitive in an 800m rounds or not.
and two ways to get through rounds:
one way is to be fast -- which makes advancing much easier.

IAAF has Roesler's 400 PR at 53.25, so very close now between Vessey and Roesler at 400. But Montano is at a different level. Vessey might be within sight of 1:56.
I am almost certain Roesler is a legit 52x 400 meter runner, she has split sub-52 several times. She does not run the open 400 and has not had chance to improve upon her 400 PR from several years ago.

0.42 PR today in the 400
Whatever she's doing with Rose Monday seems to be working
Impressive to be running a 400 PR at age 30 and shows she is heading in the right direction. With that said, the time is just slightly above average for a world class 800m runner and perhaps slightly less than average for a 400/800 type. I think all of the top U.S. 800m runners Mary, Ajee, Martinez and Allysa could all run 53x.
Watch out for this young lady at Oregon named Phyliss, she will do incredible things if she decides to run the 800 this year. Remember you heard it here first.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
