I like to go down to the YMCA to watch the fat men play handball. It's a fun way to pass the time.
6'3" & 185 pounds. 40 years old. Size 14 feet. 17:36 5k PR, 36:12 10k PR and 1:18:04 HM PR.Sometimes I hope I hear laughter when I'm doing speedwork so I have a reason to mow someone down on the next lap.Only morons laugh at bigger runners. Chicks do not like skinny, short fvcktards....

Good for him. I'm 6' about 185, if I heard any laughing going on during my speed workout, someone is going to get some strong pimp hand to the back of the head.
I usually don't. I'm usually impressed by most anybody at the track that is actually doing something relatively challenging. Much better than everyone who stays at home on the couch.
The only exception would be someone with a huge ego or attitude.
As a side note, I'd call your 5'10, 195, 14% bf person more overweight than "fat". Fat, to me, conjures up the image of somebody 250-350'ish.

You should do more speed work, tough guy. Your 5k & 10k PRs kind of suck relative to that HM PR.

Approximately half of them are. The other half are women.
I laugh when I see someone who prefaces people by "a" in the midst of an attempt to make fun of other people.
14% body fat is not fat. I'm 5'8" and 148 pounds and have a higher body fat % than that.
I'm sure people have laughed at me when I've wobbled around Harlem track late on a Tuesday evening but there are a-holes everywhere.
I have a small runner type body. I honestly think seeing people overweight workout is awesome, and I'm always really proud of them for at least trying to be active healthier. In the same light, I don't want to be laughed at when I go to the local gym.

not in the least. laughing at a fat guy at the chinese buffet with 12 plates of crab leg bones stacked up is one thing, but seeing an effort made to get fit is quite another.

But what if that fat guy at the chinese buffet was merely having his post-track workout recovery meal?
No, for two reasons:
1) I'm not creepily preoccupied with other peoples' lives, and I don't seek an unjustified sense of superiority over others.
2) What you as a hardcore jogger call "speed work" is something completely different to him—a high-intensity interval workout, i.e. an efficient way to attain an adequate degree of cardiovascular and metabolic conditioning without pissing precious hours away jogging. Good for him.
If they're doing a track workout then it's all good. That's what a track is for. Even ok for walkers, though it's silly of them.
What I can't stand is people that just wander onto a track for no reason, oblivious to the danger to themselves and anyone who might be working out there. They know better than to cross football or soccer fields during practice, but they think tracks are some kind of pedestrian transit zone or a place to hang out. I have no tolerance for them and neither should anyone else. Most track athletes are far too nice to them. Treat them rudely like they deserve.
Better to do that than just spend hours plodding. Keep up the track work and eventually he wont be (as) fat.
you must have a tiny penis.

I agree 100% with the previous two posters. My first thought is always "good for them."
I'm always impressed when I see someone, overweight or not, doing a track workout. It shows that they want to work on their running ability and most likely improve their racing times. It takes more guts to go to the track work than jog these Runners World "25 Miles a Week to Finish a Marathon" training programs. I bet that at a typical half or full marathon, 60-70% of the runners never set foot on a track to do speed work, intervals or do a fartlek workout.

The jolly ones die early: Arbuckle, Belushi, Candy, Kinnison, Farley, Leggett, Pinette....
