So, the local road runners club hosts a program for 5th through 8th graders once a week to get younger kids into distance running every Saturday morning. They have them run a few miles, do pushups, sprints, etc. It is pretty light overall, mainly used to get the members' kids off the couch to get outside and have some fun. I'd say 90% of the kids there are members' kids. This morning, they had a time trial, and my nephew ran 2:04 for 4/10 of a mile on on asphalt (measured to be exact) in a pair of my old trainers. He does no running, let alone physical activity, whatsoever during the week besides this program, and this is the 6th week of the program. In fact, most of his free time is spent drinking mountain dew and playing xbox. The only physical activity he gets is playing flag football in the fall. His parents were definitely grateful that I told them about this. They forced him to go, and he went begridgingly, but I think I caught him enjoying himself a few times.
He is a tiny kid, 5,2 at age 14 and really skinny.
What kind of potential does a kid like this have?
