Situation:
I'm a 36year old male who started running 15 months ago to lose weight (I've lost 50lb down to 139lb, 174cm). I've gone from being unable to run a mile to a 5k best of 18min 30 and 10k of 38min 10sec.
I'm limited on when I can train by oncalls (I'm a doctor) and childcare. I've joined the local running club but 80% of their sessions clash with my work or kids!
Target: I have 2 targets
1) Edinburgh 10k in 10 weeks sub 37min 30.....
2) 5k sub 18mins
Current training and limitations
Monday: Rest day (stuck at home* after work looking after young children)
Tuesday: evening 1 hour running session including warm up and warm down - speed intervals at above my 5k pace. At least 7 miles total.
Wednesday: 12k at just under my 10k pace.
Thursday: (I work 2pm-10pm + oncall) has to be morning session and it's close to my last session - so core work and 8k @ moderate pace.
Friday: Rest - often have to sleep in after oncall and childcare in evening.
Saturday: 5k Parkrun (race) or speed intervals if not racing.
Sunday: 16k long run.
Total = 52k (about 32 miles/week)
*when I say stuck at home - my wife does have a Spin bike and an elliptical trainer - and I could add these on a Monday/Friday?
I could also add an easy run on Friday afternoon before I pick my kids up at 1630pm.
Are my targets impossible with my low mileage?
Thanks
Niall
