Yes.
A well informed opinion, so to buttress that opinion with some facts sharks feed where there's other prey, which is mostly shallow(er) water. So if you're out there for a week, you're not close to anything, and thus not where sharks are likely to feed. Sharks also don't spend much time (or feed much) in cold water, and there's more places with cold water than warm that are also in shark likely shallow water.Recognizer of Brilliance wrote:

Also, a shark attack assumes you're in the water as opposed to on top of or in something floating. Floating in salt water you're not going to last a week so you'll dehydrate and drown before a shark finds you, and if you're in a life-raft or similar you're unlikely to be attacked by a shark.
You have to look at the odds, sharks primarily feed on things besides humans so they hang out where those things are. Hundreds of thousands of people swim in waters with sharks in them every year but only a handful are attacked. So unless you are stranded in an area that already has a shark in it they're not likely to stumble upon you.[/quote]
579 men not in shallow water were killed in this horrific attack:

That has been proven a hoax.

Some people drink saltwater in ultras.

The Indianapolis wasn't a hoax, but the area it was torpedoed wasn't "open sea". It was in an area not unlike the Gulf Stream in the Atlantic so there was plenty there besides humans for sharks to feed on. Sharks didn't show up because of the wreck, they were already there.
Even with the sharks being there already most of the men didn't die of shark attacks. The Indianapolis actually reinforces the idea you're more likely to die of something else. Even though quite a few died of a shark attack, most either died of dehydration or injuries suffered in the explosion.
