The situation isn't that they didn't have position information and the ability to report it. The situation is that they didn't do so. The great mystery is why not.

Looking at several days of MAS370 records on http://flightaware.com , it looks like the transponder log consistently drops out about the same point on each day. It may well be that they just flew out of range of the nearest ground station when the log stops and they aren't turning off the transponder. It's a new system and there aren't many ground stations.

Everyone is moving to Kuala Lumpur, especially the young people.
The US is poor, too, outside of the bigger cities. Ever been to rural midwest?
If you've been to a third world country, you have never been to the rural midwest, because I live in one and have been to the other and to compare them in any way, shape, or form reveals the utmost ignorance. I lived in Detroit too and there is far more poverty in large cities like that than in rural areas.
But I'm guessing your mother's basement is in a nice cozy suburb.
Actually they have made a radar system to track things all the way across the ocean....

No, 99.9% have been atheists (Timothy McVeigh, etc), Muslims, or other assorted Democrats. Yet, even when the bomber, mass murderer, etc, has public statements that they are atheists, left wing wackos, whatever, you guys will still lie about it.
Why are Muslims lumped into the same group as "assorted democrats"? I would be willing to bet practicing Muslims have MUCH more in common with conservatives (especially socially) than liberals, especially when dealing with things like homosexuality.

it's the next logical step considering they haven't found anything so far, but it raises the obvious question of how could the plane go that freakin far off course, even more so than was thought previously.

NIKE is responsible.

this. The plane was stolen to be hidden at a secret Nike base on a remote atoll in the South Pacific, where it is to be converted into a mobile high-altitude training center for Rupp & Cain. The passengers are currently being held against their will as human lab rats for secret PED experimentation and development. The holders of the stolen passports are Nike employees who hijacked the plane after brutally murdering the pilots before ceasing all communications.

Yes, Nike hijacked the plane and will be converting it into a mobile high-altitude training center. I have inside knowledge.
After our home burned down in the Oakland Firestorm of 1991 the phone was still "ringing" even though the phone had melted so it means nothing that passengers phones are still supposedly ringing.

My hunch is there's a dearth of towers in the middle of the ocean to relay the Find My Phone data.
