Running an October 3 marathon. I missed the first three months of the year after surgery and didn't get up into the 40s for mileages until mid-May. Didn't decide to run a marathon until July. So when I wrote up the plan, I'm wondering if I was overly cautious and allowed too much of a taper.
Since the first week of July, my mileage has been 75, 76, 79, 86, 92, 93, 71, 84 (last week of August). Then I went 69, 65, 54, with plans to do 55 this week and 44 (including race mileage) the week of the marathon.
The thing is, I feel like I'm way too fresh right now. The workload in July and August just didn't take nearly as much out of me as I thought it would. But I've had eight 20+ mile runs, ran a 1:09 half, a couple of sub-15:30 5K's in the last few months. And while my mileage has lessened this month, I've had some good intense workouts.
There's not a lot I can do about it now obviously, so I'm looking at this in terms of future races. Was the taper too soon?
