no, you should just drink, party and otherwise soak up the vegas atmosphere then when you get back home immediately run a race, that'll be be some motivation to train after you race like shit.
no way you will run in vegas....you will be too occupied. Don't even try to work it out. Just realize that it won't happen and relax and have a great time.
Get up before 7AM and run down the strip, up and down the steps, into parking garages and to the top, around the tops, across the bridges, and if you want more, take a cross street to the University Campus near Embassy Suites and run around the various paths. You can even find some soft surfaces. Vegas running is a gamble more diverting than the slots or sluts.
They have a very very very fast half and full marathon...
Well run, no spectators though
PB for half in Central Park when in great shape 1:27:40
best in Vegas half in decent shape 1:24:57..net 600 feet foot drop downhill
Go to Red Rocks Park(not sure if it is a State Park or rec area or what). It is about a 20 minute drive and has decent trails to run. The road around the park is steep 13 miles or so too. I enjoy getting away from The Strip every time I go there.
I'll second that. We went to Vegas for new years last year and did ALL of our runs at red rock. It is by far the nicest place to run in Vegas. It also appears that there are a lot of dirt roads out there too that you can run on, but I don't know as much about those. Red Rock Canyon is scenic and the trails are plentiful. Go there.
Look for one of the bike shops that rents mountain bikes and offers mountain bike rides around Red Rock/Henderson. They all have trail maps and the trails are perfect for running...wide jeep roads and packed sand single tracks. Keep an eye out for snakes...also wild mustangs are pretty abundant as well...just cool to see.
thanks for the comments....unfortunately, the family will be with me so not too much of the real Vegas will be had.
for those who have run at Red Rocks, are the trails pretty good? is it smooth or really rocky, uneven footing.
as I remember the trails were pretty good. Definitely some rocky areas but not unbearable.
There's a big loop you can do that's supposed to be about 13 mi (if you don't get lost or lose the trail). Be prepared to run early in the morning if it's still warm there, because there is 0 shade or shelter out there.
I thought the trails were pretty rocky myself but memory is always tricky! There is a map of the trails at the link below if you click on activities and hiking:

Have fun!
If you're absolutely stuck running around the strip area your best best is to run a few miles south and east in the fairly tame residential neighborhoods, more or less paralleling the strip. Even south and east of UNLV works and there might be a track at campus. DO NOT head north or west, it is scary/ghetto Vegas.
There is a street that goes up the hill in Henderson to dirt trails but I don't really know those well enough to clue you in. At that point, if you drive 6-7 miles to Henderson, might as well go to Red Rock.
Run in the morning. If you are staying on the strip, Frank Sinatra Blvd. runs behind many of the casinos(mandalay, luxor, excal, monte carlo, belaggio). You can run up and down that and get a pretty good 45 minute run in. A little smoggy however. Dont even try the strip unless early , early morning. Avoid the areas near UNLV at night.
Here's my 12 mile loop:
Start at the corner of Tropicana and The Strip.
Go east on Tropicana until you get to EASTERN Ave. (3 miles) turn right.
Go south on Eastern Ave. until you get to WARM SPRINGS. (3 miles) Turn right.
Go west on WARM SPRINGS until you get to The Strip (Las Vegas Blvd.) turn right. Now you are 3 miles away from where you started.
Enjoy.

Blue Point is great for a running jaunt--mainly a haven for Vegas-area mountain bikers but you can run there too. Also a drive like Red Rock, however.
Was in Vegas for the first time recently, and I found it to be one of the worst cities to run in. I ran up-n-down the strip early morning (but not early enough). If you've never been to Vegas however, it is neat to run the strip as a means of site seeing....just be prepared for more of a jog than a hard run.
Did your dick fall off yet ?
Go to Red Rock Canyon and run Turtle Head Point. 2.5 miles from the trail head to the top of the mountain and it climbs over 2000 feet. Its a killer but a great view-take water and leave your pride behind!
Red Rocks is good. Also, there are a couple of running clubs there. You may want to contact them or check their websites for suggestions. They often host 5k's on the weekend.
Im heading there from the 15th to the 18th of october. If thats when you'll be there let me know and maybe we can get together for a run. I wont be doing much of the real vegas thing as Im visiting my girlfriend at UNLV and she isnt 21 yet. I wont have a car though.
